Tao, dude, chillax, you don't need to be so inquisitive to become someones friend lol. I know how you feel in terms of it being difficult to become friends in person. It just takes practice. Get chatting about anime and the like in here and you'll find peeps easily enough. at the con it's so much easier again cause there are so many people there to talk to. here's a couple pointers for when you are the con or at any of the meet-ups (yes there will be meet-ups soon).
1. If they are in cosplay, compliment the costume, if you don't know who they are ask them and get a conversation started that way. This way, A) you'll find out some of the anime they are in to and if you don't know about it you'll have a new anime to look into lol always a fun way to go.
2. Just say hi, introduce yourself and start a normal lil chat. ask about how long they've been into anime and the like, what kind of stuff the ylike. Don't be in a rush to learn everything about the person. If you come on to strong you might scare people off.
3. The line. This is a great place to start talking to people. As silver said she met a cool guy in the line to get in. (I know he was cool cause he was me lol) Everyoen int he lines are excited for whatever the are queueing up for. talk about it, how they foud out about it, is it their first tie going to it etc.
For your cosplay, you said that you've seen FMA. I suggest you find a character you like fromt hat and cosplay them. there are DOZENS of places online you can find a costume. You mentioned the worry about sizing. most sites give a sizing chart that you can check yourself against. and they service pertty much everyone. I'm a rather large persona nd I have no problem finding costumes that work awesomely. I know someone mentioned the L cosplay, DON'T DO IT!! it's a trick. EVERYONE cosplays L. He's the new Naruto. haha.
Keep all that in mind and you'll have a wonderful con experience. Keep an eye out for the meetups cause that's probably the best place to meet people before the con. Also, addingp eople on facebook is a good idea. tha way you can find out a bunch about them before you meet them and you don't need to ask the awkward questions.
I can't wait to meet all of you guys at the meetups/the con. You'll notice me pretty easily. at meetups. I'll be the big guy with the bear and long hair. pottentially ikn a pink kimono, white hyori and black shikakou. I may even have a hat on. who knows!?
Nom is a great con to start off with. I met a lot of awesome people there last year and I keep in contact with them via here, meetups, other cons and the like. Nom is handy as everything is so centralised including accom. Half of the fun of it is staying with a couple mates in the hotel rooms and being rowdy with all the other con goers lol.
Laterz guyz.

Well sure Trina, you can be our freind too, we can all be friends and meet up at the con. I know I would be happy to have people to talk to at it and making new friends is nice to do to To Belisknar: Thanks for your advice. I appricate you helping me. I will try to do them things at these meet ups and cons so I can chat to new people and have fun making new friends. But im a shy person so its hard for me to talk to strangers and thats what I believe makes it harder for me to make friends and talk to people. Usually if someone came to me and started talking to me I would talk back to them as they made the first move. But I know im supposed to talk to people if I want to get out of the shyness that I have. Also I don't want to seem offensive or anything but when I was reading this, I felt like I was been talked to like a child and I don't like when people talk that way to me, it annoyes me but if its helpful information its good to know how to learn about stuff so the information helps me too. Thanks

Sorry if you felt offended man. Did not mean it to go over that way, it's actually the way I talk IRL I like to add lil quips and the like to my sentences and keeping things simple has become a habbit as I used to talk with very complex and fancy words(I used to be a bit of an ass but only how I talked not how I acted).
I have been in the exact same situation with the shyness. I'm still there. But Con goers are so friendly, you give them a compliment about their costume they will have nothing but time for you. It's the lil things they all work and as I said. it's about practice(this advice actually came from someone else to me last year when I was worried about not knowing people at the cons)

Its alright, don't worry. I think its because im shy people think they can talk to me that way and I won't say anything back to them. So you were a bit of a punk in the past. I see, well I don't think I want to annoy you then, I would'nt want to get beaten up by you lol. I have been a nice a guy all my life so I don't like violence except on video games tho lol.
So you were shy too, I see. Well maybe you can help me out then at the con and at the meet ups too, that would be helpful to me and I will try what you said in the previous comment also. Well Ill try and compliment people at it if I know the character or don't know the character, some costuumes can be really good from what I seen in the past.

haha. Dude, if you think I wa a punk then they must have drasticly changed the meaning. I've been a geek my whole life. I just used to talk like a pompus ass. I was a lil big headed that's all. But sure. I'll help out where I can at meetups, but at the con I'll be really busy taking care of the special guests and just doing random admin stuff.
I'll be lucky if I get to hang out with any of my current friends at the con.

Well I don't think punk as changed but I thought thats what you meant when you said thats what you were like in the past. Well you must be smart tho if your a geek and I would'nt make fun of you because I know what thats like. Well thanks, if you will help out thats kool. But I didnt know you would be taking care of guests and random admin stuff, are you one of the moderators at this con or you work for them? Well you must get very busy if you think you won't be able to hang out with your currert friends at the con, thats a shame if you can't do that but at least you get to help out at the con so you get to meet other people which can be good too.
